Panimage 7-inch Frame

The Pandigital Panimage 7-inch frame is our favorite digital photo frame.  It provides the best combination of great performance, great specs, and a great price.  Continue reading below to find out why we like it better than all other digital photo frames.

The Panimage 7-inch frame sports 256mb of built-in memory, which lets you store up to dozens or even hundreds (depending on the size of the photos) or pictures without having to buy any additional storage.  However, one of the really cool features of the Panimage frame is that if you use up this 256mb of built-in storage, the frame also houses SD, Memory Stick Pro, XD, and MMC slots that will allow you to expand the storage capacity.  Support for all these different formats means that you can always use the cheapest of whatever the revolving door of cheap memory types happens to be hot at the time.

The frame supports JPEG photos, which are the most common image type for pictures.  The pictures are displayed at a 480 x 234 resolution with a 400:1 contrast ration, which are pretty good specs given the price.  The screen is also an LED display rather than LCD, which both helps keep the price down and also uses less power and gives more realistic looking colors, which may not be best for a TV that you want to “pop”, but is the best way to go for a digital picture frame since you typically want these to look like real life photographs.

The frame comes with lots of extras like a calendar and a clock display, as well as the ability to be managed from the frame directly, without the need for a computer.  Physically, the frame also comes with a great supply of accessories including a stand, remote control, AC adapter, and comprehensive manual.

One of our favorite features is the ability to edit pictures on the fly, directly from the frame.  You can resize, crop, or rotate an image without the need for a computer.  You can also adjust brightness and color on a per image basis, which is very handy and keeps you from having to create copies of a bunch of images that you edit and then re-upload.

We also tested the frame with both a Mac and a PC, and everything worked right out of the box with both.  The frame truly is plug and play, with no need for drivers or anything like that.
